If you are trying hard to find the best and quickest way to lose fat, then Interval Training Workouts really are the secret key to your success!
For a long time now, slow, boring cardio has been touted as the be all and end all when it comes to stripping fat and losing those pounds. You would also have probably heard that you should be training in the “ideal targeted heart rate for maximum fat loss – or fat burning zone”.
Interval Training Workouts challenge that thinking!
The truth is however that although using cardio in this way will give you some results, it will not work for everyone and all body types, it is monotonous and boring and is also prone to such negative impacts like weight loss plateaus and even weight gain due to an increased appetite – one of the biggest dangers of hard cardio! This does not occur woth interval training workouts. Oh and by the way, boring, monotonous cardio takes a LONG TIME to do and get results!
So what are interval training workouts?
As you will read about in one of my other pages, What Is Interval Training, the concept is simple – like the best things usually are – and that is varying the levels of intensity that you work out in over a shorter period of time. This increase and decrease of your heart rate is what really gives you the edge when it comes to fat burning exercise and is also the secret to shortening your workouts.
Take my real life example for instance. Just a month or so ago I was training at my local gym with a buddy. While I was finishing some additional weights, he jumped on the treadmill and was just doing a steady rate of about 9km an hour. By the time I joined him on the one next to him, he had nearly 15 minutes on me. I jumped on and did my interval training using just basic numbers of 2 minutes at 6km an hour and then 1 minute of 14km an hour. I did this for 5 intervals the whole time while my buddy just kept going at his constant 9km per hour. Wouldn’t you know it, that by the time I was finished, I had overtaken his distance and calories burned even though I had trained for around half the time he had! Amazing and further proof that using interval training workouts cuts the time it takes to exercise and also is just as effective in that shortened time!
Furthermore, once you start to add some resistance training to your interval training routines the magic really starts happening. By doing a resistance, body-weight exercises or weight lifting workout before your interval sessions your body then goes into a much greater level of what we like to call “afterburn” which basically means your body will not only burn off fat while you are doing the workout but also continue to burn off fat and calories long after you have completed your workout – sometimes as long as 24 hours!
Although the concept of interval training workouts for fat loss is simple, it really helps to know as much as you can about how it works and the best way to coordinate the intervals and finally match them up with the right strength training.
